LYING LEADS TO DISASTER
Hamna Majid
Once upon a time, there was a boy named Rashid. He was
a nice boy, about 12 or 13 years old, who respected his elders and was kind to
younger kids. He was intelligent and popular among his classmates. However, he
had one bad habit: he would lie.
It all started when his teacher asked him to get his
homework checked. Rashid lied and said that he couldn't complete it because he
had been out of the city for the last few days due to urgent work. He got away
with it, but one lie led to another.
One day in winter, Rashid's mother told him that he
couldn't go ice-skating because the lake hadn't frozen properly. Rashid lied
and told his mother that his teacher had said the lake had frozen, so the boys
could go skating. Rashid went ice-skating that day but suddenly, the ice
beneath him broke, and he found himself struggling in the water. He called for
help, but no one came. A farmer who was going home after a long day's work
noticed Rashid almost drowning and quickly fetched a ladder. Rashid climbed
slowly and felt very ill. The farmer took him to his parents' home and told
them what had happened. His parents had been worried sick and were grateful to
the farmer. Rashid was ill for about a month and was forbidden to go
ice-skating by the doctor.
Moral: We should never lie no matter what happens. He
realized his mistake and swore never to lie again.
